What was I supposed to do?

As I took a book out of the shelves at the bookstore where I visit on a regular basis, I found someone slipped the wing of the book cover into the page where I think he or she stopped reading. I, for a split second, was bothered asking myself if it was right decision to take that book, because someone marked somewhere inside the book so that he could resume the reading next time he return to this bookstore. I, at first, thought finding another one could be a great solution, which ended in vain. What was I meant to do in that situation? Get it or not?

Time to rely on mental clinic?

As I was about to set off for the public sauna just in front of my house, my wife asked me to place the recycling papers she's put in a bag altogether onto the appointed lot that was right on the way to the sauna so that the papers could be collected by public sweepers tomorrow morning.

30 minutes later, coming back from the sauna, I was opening the front door and found my wife, with a heavy sigh, staring at my right hand where the recycling papers were still being hold.

In the end, she burst out laughing and so did I. But the the question if that happening is something funny or serious is still hanging on unsolved.

<짐슴의 길> 상권을 읽고 잠시 한 눈 팔고 있는 중입니다. 이 책, 한번 펴드니 중간에 끊기가 영 쉽지 않더라구요. 그래서 좀 길게 짬이 날 때 스트레이트로 달리려고요. 하도 사회파, 사회파 해서 엄청 무거운울 줄 알았는데 웬걸, 검지에 침 묻히기가 바쁘게 바로 다음 페이지로 손이 가더군요. 어마어마한 흡인력이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 혹시 나만 그런 생각이 드나 싶어 평소 제가 읽는 장르와 별로 친하지 않은 와이프에 슬그머니 들이밀었는데 어랏, 단 이틀만에 상,하권 모두를 끝내고서는 '세상이 참 허무하구나...'하면서 감상평이랍시고 한 마디 하더군요. 

상권을 읽은 다음 트위터에 올린 내용인데, 작가의 이름 앞에 붙는 '사회파 추리소설의 거장' 타이틀은 앞으로 그의 작품 몇권을 더 읽어봐야 확신이 서겠지만 '써스펜스 대가'라는 수식어가 그에게 너무 잘 어울린다는 생각은 <짐승의 길> 상권 만으로도 충분할 것 같습니다. 

그나저나 책을 한권 이라도 더 팔아야하는 출판사의 입장은 충분히 이해가 가지만 <마쓰모토 세이초> 마케팅은 웬지 '재미가 없으면 의미도 없다'라는 북스피어의 모토와 거꾸로 가는 것 같아 좀 아쉽습니다.
